Friday evening the AJC had me shoot a group of students from the Whitefield Academy who were doing something called, “Prom With a Purpose.” The alternative style prom’s goal was to save as much money as possible by not going to fancy restaurants, renting limo’s or holding the event at a nice venue so that the money saved could be donated to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society in honor of a teacher of theirs who had the disease.
I only went to my senior prom when I was in high school, but the nights started out similar. Everyone gathered at one house to take photos, but that’s about where everything changed. After the photos, the students made their way to the back porch where they were served a pool-side dinner. Due to early deadlines, that was all I was able to stay for unfortunately. Would have been interesting to see how the full night played out.
