The other week after my assignment from the Wall Street Journal I had to high tail it up to Gwinnett to get some photos of Gwinnett Technical College student Mary Raterman for a story about how non-traditional students like her were being affected by changes to the HOPE Scholarship. The first few shots we did didn’t feel right, she was smiling and she was sitting in the area where she’d normally be taking care of children at the early childhood education center (we couldn’t actually shoot any of the kids). It didn’t fit well because what I knew of the story, it wasn’t a very happy one. So we tried a few other shots and these seemed to be a better match.
