Neal Boortz was brought in to speak by University Union last night. The general problem I have with political pundits and talking heads (this goes for the left and right) is that they rely heavily on the idea that you won’t be able to respond to what they are saying.
The formats they use throw a lot of information at you in a very short amount of time, so you either get stuck trying to dissect one argument or you simply don’t question any of it for the sake of hearing it all. Sometimes they will take questions, but if you contradict something they say you are often cut off and called stupid. Anyways, Boortz treated members of the crowd very well with the exception of Zaid Jilani who had written a column about Boortz’s impending visit in yesterday’s paper. It should be noted that Zaid didn’t actually show up to the speech.
To the University Union’s credit, they have done a good job bringing in a balance of speakers over the years including Al Sharpton, Pat Buchanan, Nadine Strossen (ACLU President), Ron Jeremy, and Craig Gross.
No don’t taze me bro’s here, just a guy speaking.
