Last month while I was shooting for the AJC, one of my assignments was to shoot a concert for Janelle Monae at Smith’s Olde Bar. I’d never heard of Janelle before, but when I got there I ran into Rachel Bailey from the UGA Photojournalism program and more recently Paste Magazine. This was a good thing because the assignment sheet was about an hour and a half off so I ended up standing around for awhile with not much else to do.
The music was interesting, and I’m still not quite sure what I saw happen on stage. I do know I was pulling silly string off my lenses for a few days afterwords though.
Anyways, her new album just came out so the paper finally ran the photos/story.
